Optimize Your Application Process with ChatGPT
Are you looking for ways to optimize your job search and application process in the New Year? Look no further than ChatGPT and Playground from OPENAI! With the process I am about to explain, you can easily create a resume tailored to the job description and submit your application with ease.
Finding a job to apply to can be a daunting task, but finding the right job can be a nerve-racking and frustrating experience, especially in today’s competitive job market. With the current state of the tech industry, laying off mass amounts of people and a recession looming it is extremely important to take time to find a job that aligns with your skills, experience, and career goals.You can start by identifying the types of jobs you’re interested in and then search for job openings that match your criteria.
Here’s how:
Step 1 — Find the Job Description
Search for a job posting on sites such as Linkedin, workatastartup, Indeed, or any job board that relates to your industry. Once you’ve found the job description, read it carefully to understand the qualifications and requirements.
My example will be a Solutions Engineer! So I will use the following resources above to look up Solution Engineer roles in the Bay Area or remote positions. The way big tech is firing people left and right, my best choice is to apply to start-ups to increase my chances of being seen. If you are new to the tech industry and looking to get in, I recommend applying to a start-up with workatastartups.com as your primary resource.
After reading both job overview, I decided to go with Standard Cognition.
STEP 2 — Write Your Resume
You can use ChatGPT to create a resume tailored to the job description. HOW ?? ChatGPT can suggest text based on the job description, making it easy to customize your resume to fit the specific qualifications and requirements.
Option #1 —
Use OpenAI’s playground to create a resume based on whatever you use in the prompt/playground. For my example, I will go into the job description and copy and paste that into a playground with a request to “Create a resume based on the following”. Then enter the job description from the job post.
Submit your request and let GPT do its magic!
From here, go to your resume in google docs, pages, or whatever you use to edit your resume and edit the bullet points to match your experience. This is quicker than manually doing the work, but still can be improved.
Option #2 —
Change the prompt in Playground to the following “Create a resume based on the information from the job description and the current resume below: “.
You can copy and paste your whole resume or manually add each job into the playground prompt. Depending on the format of your resume you may have to change a few typos if you copy and paste, keep that in mind. I added my bullet points using copy and paste and the names manually since I ran into format issues. You can do this for only the bullet points or your whole resume since CHATGPT can rewrite your bullet points, Summary, skills, and projects!
Let’s look at my results!
This is awesome! The only with this prompt is that it spits out the company, position, and description at the end outputted response. This is not a huge issue since you can copy the information you need to make your resume an ideal fit for the position. The beautiful part about this process is that CHATGPT can customize your resume for you, and make suggestions or changes given the correct prompt.
Step #3 — Submit Your Application
